About me!

My name is Ian Chafee and I am a candidate for the board of education in District #117. I have been a resident of Hickory Hills for 10 years. My older daughter is in 1st grade at Dorn School, and my younger daughter will attend District 117 schools in a few years.
I believe that I am uniquely qualified to serve on the District 117 Board of Education. I am employed in an elementary school district as a technology trainer. In that capacity, I work with teachers, principals, administrators, and parents every day. I am very aware of the challenges that a school district faces and what is required of a school board, both as a matter of law and with regards to fiscal and educational responsibility. I have had the opportunity to be a part of the day to day running of a school district and I believe I can bring that experience to benefit the teachers, staff and students of District 117.
The real reason I am running for school board is simple; like most parents, I consider my daughters to be my best accomplishment, and I want to make sure I do everything I can to see to it that they get everything they need to lead happy, healthy lives. One of the cornerstones of that is a quality education. District 117 is already doing a fine job in that area, but as a community we need to continue to be vigilant. If we rest on our accomplishments, future opportunities to improve our district might be missed. As a school board member, it would be my responsibility to make sure we take advantage of whatever opportunities and resources we can. This will allow us to continue to guide District 117 on a path that will ensure that we produce children that will make good, productive members of our community.
The current District 117 School Board is comprised of quality people, people who want to do what’s best for our children and our community. I’m asking for the opportunity to help them do that work.
